Overview. Market expectations of support services are continually
increasing as the Regional market matures. In many cases the level of
local technical, engineering and project management support is a key distinguishing
factor between various manufacturers. The costs associated with expatriating
support personnel to the Region are however very high and often unsustainable
in the market place. Indigenous staff may reduce expenses somewhat, but
experienced consultants, project managers, engineering staff, and maintenance
personnel, able to support high technology products, systems and projects
are not easily found. To meet this need, Medaco provides a staff of professionals
able to offer the client consulting, project management, engineering support,
maintenance and training services. Medaco employs professionals based
in the local markets of the Region and is thus able to provide the services
in a highly cost-effective manner.
Consulting.
Typical consulting tasks undertaken by Medaco staff include reviews of
local contractors and supplier's capabilities, definition of suitable
local partners and other activities associated with major projects. A
wide variety of other important tasks are undertaken including assignments
as varied as detailed surveys, feasibility studies and valuation engineering.
Project Management. No matter what success a company achieves in
booking orders, effective project management is absolutely critical to
both customer satisfaction and to the profitability of a project. Medaco
therefore provides a comprehensive range of project management and coordination
services. Our experienced, locally based personnel are well placed to
ensure appropriate expediting, management of logistics and coordination
with local contractors and customers. In certain cases Medaco engineers
are also seconded to the Principal's offices to assist with project management
during the initial phases of contract execution and to ensure continuity
when site work commences. Project administration services are also provided
which may include financial, legal, translation, secretarial and transportation
services.
Field Engineering. Expectations of engineering and technical support
are continually increasing. This area is absolutely essential to long-term
customer satisfaction. Medaco have responded to this need and offer a
full range of services in support of Principal Client's projects in the
Region. A typical range of services provided includes systems engineering,
installation supervision, commissioning, site acceptance tests and warranty.
Procurement. Project requirements almost always dictate the use
of local subcontractors, locally manufactured equipment, or equipment
which does not fall within the normal scope of supply of the Principal
Client. Medaco therefore provides a range of procurement services designed
to complement the preferred scope of supply of the Principal. An extensive
database of potential suppliers is maintained, including such areas as
installation services, control cabinet manufacture, field instrumentation,
power supplies, telecommunications equipment, etc..
Maintenance. In line with increasing expectations of engineering
support, ongoing maintenance of installed equipment is of primary importance.
Our preferred approach in this area is to agree a maintenance contract
with end-users of equipment supplied by Principal Clients. Our standard
maintenance contracts take into account the need for regular preventative
maintenance and on-call emergency support. As part of the approach a philosophy
is developed to ensure that spare parts are available as required.
Training. Through the availability of experienced locally based
personnel Medaco are able to offer technical training to end-user engineers
and operators. Medaco engineers can conduct both traditional classroom
training and "on the job" training. As Medaco's experienced
personnel maintains close contact with the customer following contract
execution, we are able to ensure that the techniques taught during formal
training are being effectively used in practice, and to provide "on-the-job"
reinforcement of principles which had not been properly understood. By
employing this approach Medaco helps clients to achieve technology transfer
and effective long-term technology utilization, both key factors which
are rarely emphasized by companies doing business in the Region.
